Is there a need for a children’s home in the southern part of Honduras?

Please take time to read the following to find out what the mission is for the orphaned and abandoned children of southern Honduras.

Why the country of Honduras?
• Annual per capita income only $600
• Average family lives on $1.17 per day
• Largest HIV/AIDS concentration in Central America
• 2nd poorest country in the western hemisphere behind Haiti
• In 1998, Hurricane Mitch left 1 million homeless
• 33% of children ages 1-5 suffer from chronic malnutrition
• 62.7% of the population live in extreme poverty

Why the region of Choluteca and the southern part of Honduras?
On average, 30 children a month are abandoned, orphaned or removed from their homes by the Honduran government, just in the region of Choluteca alone.

What is the Answer?
Mission Lazarus Refuge is a 1,250 acre working ranch located in Jayacayan, San Marcos de Colon, Choluteca, Honduras.  It is 3,500 feet above sea level providing cool, clean air.  The children who live there take part in regular chores of a working ranch, including caring for livestock and maintenance.  Each child is provided an education and are taught other vocations as well, including horticulture, carpentry, blacksmithing and sewing which provides them with skills that will serve them well once they leave the Refuge.  Our goal is to produce well-rounded, Christian men and women who can take care of their families and be responsible citizens of their country once they leave Mission Lazarus Refuge.

How will this be accomplished?

We are in the process of constructing 10 homes in our first stage which will house around 10 children in each and 2 Honduran women who will provide for the needs of the children.  Each house functions as a family and teaches the children what a Christian, Honduran family is like.

How can you help?

You can sponsor a child at Mission Lazarus Refuge for $250 a month.  Sponsorship is a great blessing for the children of Mission Lazarus Refuge and for you.  It is an awesome responsibility not to be entered into lightly, without prayer and thought.  Children may be sponsored by individuals, families, groups, classes or congregations.  You may also partially support a child for as little as $50 a month.  We will group you with others to provide full support for a child.  On average 30 children a month are in need of a home in the region of Choluteca alone.  That does not include those children at our back door.  Will you help us help them? We need child sponsors immediately to ensure that all is taken care of when it's time for a child to move into the Mission Lazarus Refuge.

What can you do immediately?

We covet your prayers for Mission Lazarus Refuge, the children and the mission as a whole with Mission Lazarus.

Without God and his guidance none of our projects would be the successes that they are, but we also depend on your generous donations.  Please consider adding Mission Lazarus to your monthly giving.

God is a great God and we know that He can do great things for the children at Mission Lazarus Refuge.  God bless you for your interest in the mission to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ across the world.
