Give Someone Special a "Pay It Forward" Gift this Christmas

Mission Lazarus

No kidding, just a few weeks ago when I was pulling up to the drive-thru window at Chick-fil-A, the cashier told me that the person in front of me had paid for my order. I was like, Wuh? Then I realized that person was performing an act of random kindness, so I put my twenty dollar bill away. My daughter was with me, and we discussed how incredibly nice, and incredibly unexpected, it was.

I have to confess that I have always found the idea of “random acts of kindness” sort of irksome. Kindness is never accidental, and I don’t think it is ever truly random, there is always an element of intention to it. The nice guy in front of me didn’t know who the beneficiary of his kindness was, but he did decide he wanted to buy someone’s lunch, and took action to do so. I can’t know for sure what motivated that guy, but it seems likely to me that he deeply values kindness and was trying to transmit that value upon the world to influence it for the better. There’s nothing random about that; it is very intentional.

I really like the idea that our gifts can be influential, especially during the holiday season. If you are still looking for holiday gifts, we at Mission Lazarus would love it if you would consider a donation in honor of someone special in your life.

When you donate to one of these areas, make sure to tick the box that indicates you are dedicating the purchase in honor of someone, so that you can send them a Christmas ecard and a personal message to let them know that their gift will benefit a student or family in Honduras or Haiti.
