First Day of School - Lazarus Academy

The school year in Honduras follows the calendar year, so this week marks the first day of school at Lazarus Academy. With the new school year comes fresh notebooks, new pencils, nervous smiles, and the kind of hope that only comes with a new beginning.

For many children in Honduras, a quality education is not guaranteed. It is not automatic, and it is not always easy to access. This is one of the reasons Lazarus Academy exists - this, and so much more.

Edgar’s Martinez’s story from the above video began in struggle but quickly developed into one of flourishing, thanks to the incredible teachers and staff at Lazarus Academy.

Edgar is a student who has faced challenges that could have easily left him behind. But through the love of our teachers, the support of a classroom equipped for students with special learning needs, and the encouragement of a community that refused to give up on him, Edgar is now thriving.

Education = Opportunity

Edgar’s story matters deeply, but it also represents something bigger. Because for every Edgar, there are more students in the villages on the other side of the mountain eager for an opportunity:

  • Students who have never experienced consistency or safety

  • Children who are hungry, not only for food, but for encouragement

  • Families who want education for their children, but simply don’t have the means

As our academy grows, we are creating more space for students who want to learn, who want a better future, and who are ready to work hard, but who need your help to make this possible.

Thank you for believing in students like Edgar and in the countless other children whose stories are still being written this school year. Because of you, Lazarus Academy is not just beginning another school year, we are building futures and transforming lives.

Providing a scholarship for a child to attend Lazarus Academy does more than simply support a school, it opens a door.

Whether you can provide a full academic scholarship for $225/month or simply a one-time gift toward the Lazarus Academy scholarship program, every dollar has an impact.
