Health Care
In the rural regions of Honduras, thousands of families live without reliable access to quality health care, water, and sanitation. This gap leaves communities vulnerable to preventable diseases, chronic conditions, and a cycle of poor health that limits opportunity and well-being. Mission Lazarus’ Health Care Initiatives respond to this need by focusing on four key areas: chronic diseases, women’s health, oral health, and community health. Our approach goes beyond treating symptoms—we aim to educate and empower individuals to make lasting lifestyle changes that lead to healthier, more hopeful lives.
The Chronic Disease Initiative treats hypertension, diabetes, epilepsy, and mental health conditions. Our cost-share approach, where all patients have to invest in their own treatment, has proven to be a effective approach that has seen a 90% success rate in disease management, which is higher than most clinics in the U.S.
The Women’s Health Initiative provides prenatal care, postnatal care, and women’s health exams. When a patient is diagnosed with cancer we work with each family, partnering together to see that they receive full treatment.
The Oral Health Initiative is operates in a fully equipped dental clinic. Our clinic has three dental chairs and state of the art dental equipment including digital panoramic x-ray. Our goal is restoration and education so that our patients can maintain a great smile for life.
The Community Health Initiative is focused on building latrines for families who do not have one. We identify villages with need and we work to ensure that every family in the village has a latrine. Over 900 latrines have been installed since this initiative began. Here is a link to an interactive map showing every latrine location.
