Mission Lazarus Refuge
The Mission Lazarus Refuge is home for children who are placed with us by Honduras Child Protective Services. Our approach is individualized care where we create the space that each child needs to heal from the many wounds that most of them have experienced in their short lives.
Our commitment is to quality of care rather than numbers of children. We will never have more than five children for every caregiver and we’ll never have more than ten children per home. Our campus, located on the Mission Lazarus ranch, is co-ed but our homes are divided by gender.
The children at the Mission Lazarus Refuge are provided access to specialized medical care and therapy. All of our children attend the Lazarus Academy. Our children also are active in ranch and farm life. They maintain a large family garden and herd of beef and dairy cows. All children are responsible for helping milk their herd of cows every day.
We are committed to each child’s success. Even after they’ve turned 18 years old we continue to journey with them to college or specialized training.
Our individualized approach to raising children is not an inexpensive way to raise children but we believe that it is the right way. The Mission Lazarus Refuge is not the answer to the social issues that many children in Honduras are facing, rather it is a unique opportunity for a select group of children that God has sent us.
