Lidia’s Story - A Seed of Hope

When Lidia arrived at The Refuge Children's Home as a toddler, she had already endured unimaginable loss and hardship. Her early life was marked by instability and neglect, leaving her unsure of what it meant to feel safe, valued, or loved. But within the walls of The Refuge, something began to change.

Here, Lidia was given more than just a bed and a meal. She was given the space to grow. Slowly, through loving care and daily encouragement, she began to heal. One surprising place where this healing took root was in the garden. With her small hands in the soil, Lidia learned to nurture life, and in the process, her own spirit was nurtured too.

The garden became a symbol of her transformation: a place where patience blossomed, resilience took root, and hope grew with every seed she planted.

Lidia’s journey mirrors that of many children at The Refuge in that each child carries pain but also potential. Through the work of Mission Lazarus, and the power of God’s love shown in everyday moments, broken stories are being rewritten.
