A Smile Worth Saving

In a remote village in southern Honduras where access to healthcare is limited, there lives a 7-year-old girl named Britany Sofía Méndez. Her smile, though full of innocence, hid a reality faced by many children in her community. She had never learned how to brush her teeth, how to care for them, or even held a toothbrush or toothpaste in her hands.

For Britany Sofia, tooth pain and cavities seemed normal. In her community, many families have learned to live with the belief that when a tooth hurts, the only solution is to pull it out, not because they want to, but because the cost of dental treatment is beyond their reach. This mindset has been passed down from parents to children for generations, leaving many young people without prevention, education, and often without confidence in their smiles.

However, Britany's story began to change when Mission Lazarus’ medical and dental team came to her community bringing toothbrushes, toothpaste and education about prevention.

When she received her first toothbrush, her eyes lit up with excitement. She realized that her smile was worth caring for too. Today, she is happy, grateful, and full of enthusiasm because she can smile with confidence and learn how to care for herself and her health.

More Than a Toothbrush

Through this educational outreach program, Britany and her classmates received fluoride treatments, a simple yet powerful measure that helps strengthen teeth and prevent future dental disease. For many of them, it was the first time they learned the importance of caring for their oral health.

To the children in this remote village, the Mission Lazarus team brought much more than dental healthcare, supplies, and education. They brought love and hope.

Britany Sofía is not alone. Across rural Honduras, many more children are waiting for the same opportunity to learn, grow, and smile without pain. Through your support, Mission Lazarus brings preventive dental care, health education, and the love of Christ to communities where these resources are often out of reach. Together, we can help more children experience healing, renewed hope, and a more abundant life, both now and for eternity.
