Building Bridges - Building Trust

The River Rises

For months each year in southern Honduras, the river rises. What is often a bone-dry riverbed can become impassable during the rainy season, cutting off entire communities from school, medical care, and even basic supplies. Life, quite literally, is put on hold.

This was the reality for one remote community we serve in Honduras until a group from Churchill Mortgage decided to step in. They didn’t just send support, they showed up!

Side by side with our team, they made their way into the mountains, carried materials by hand, and labored to build something that had never existed before: a suspension bridge strong enough to withstand the seasons that often isolated this community. It wasn’t easy work. Every component, every cable, every step forward required effort, problem solving, and perseverance. But slowly, a bridge took shape. And with it, something began to change.

Compassion in Action

As the bridge was taking shape, people gathered - some cautiously and some with quiet excitement. Once completed, people from the community stepped onto the bridge, one by one. What had once been a dangerous crossing became a path of connection, safety, and possibility. Children can now get to school, even in the rainy season. Families can access medical care. Communities once cut off are now connected.

But the transformation didn’t stop there.

Something changed in the hearts of those who helped make it possible. What began as a project became something deeper – a shared experience of purpose, humility, and compassion in action. This investment of time, effort, and focus created more than a suspension bridge, it created space for relationships to flourish with the people of this community. Those relationships foster trust, opening the door to share the good news of Jesus.

This is the kind of impact made possible through partnership, whether through giving, going, or coming alongside communities in need.
